| US equities retreated on Monday amid escalating crude oil prices and concerns regarding a deceleration in artificial intelligence advancements. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 152.09 points, a decrease of 0.29 percent, to 52,421.2. The S&P 500 decreased by 37 points, representing a 0.48 percent contraction, to 7,619.98. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased by 146.62 points, equating to a 0.56 percent decline, to 26,186.41. Crude oil prices continued their ascent following a strategic pipeline shutdown by Saudi Arabia, exacerbated by expanding geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures surpassed $104 per barrel, building upon substantial increases from the prior week. This downturn has positioned the Dow near a one-month trough. |
