| Japan Stocks retreat as oil prices stay elevated |

| Japanese stocks experienced a significant decline on Friday, primarily influenced by rising oil prices and increasing global bond yields, which negatively impacted investor sentiment. The Nikkei 225 index fell by 1.93% to close at 64,011, while the broader Topix index decreased by 0.65% to 4,028. Investor caution also increased ahead of the upcoming US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, following stronger-than-expected producer price data from Thursday that heightened speculation of a potential interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve next week. In Japan, the Bank of Japan (BOJ) is also anticipated to continue its trend of raising interest rates. BOJ board member Kazuyuki Masu indicated that policymakers are likely to persist in tightening monetary policy and gradually reduce support as inflation approaches the 2% target. The technology and AI sectors faced notable losses, with Kioxia Holdings dropping 7%, Advantest down 6.5%, SoftBank Group declining by 4%, Tokyo Electron falling 2.6%, and Taiyo Yuden slipping 2.1%. |
