Chinese stocks fall on renewed inflationary concerns Back
(15:21, 10 Sep 2026)
Chinese equities registered declines on Thursday, pressured by escalating crude oil prices that amplified anxieties surrounding inflationary pressures and decelerating economic expansion. The Shanghai Composite decreased 0.43% to 3,934.4, whereas the Shenzhen Component shed 0.77% to 13,617.7, mirroring broader losses throughout Asian markets.

Crude prices held at elevated levels amid heightened geopolitical risk stemming from escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. Iran suggested a potential for further conflict intensification, while US President Donald Trump stated that a resolution was improbable before the November midterm elections. This development engendered apprehensions regarding potential supply chain disruptions traversing the Strait of Hormuz.

Investor sentiment was tempered by concerns surrounding escalating inflation in China, as consumer prices accelerated in August amid rising food and energy costs. Elevated crude oil prices pose a potential for additional inflationary pressure should geopolitical tensions persist.

Technology, financial, and automotive equities faced significant selling pressure. Foxconn Industrial Internet retreated 2.04%, Ping An Insurance decreased 1.32%, Zhongji Innolight decreased 2.07%, and BYD decreased 2.75%.
