Japan Markets rally Back

The Nikkei 225 rose 2.12% to close at 66,400, and the Topix gained 0.55% to 4,126 on Monday, marking the second consecutive session of increases for Japanese shares. Technology stocks led the advance, spurred by optimism that OpenAI’s new model may boost demand for AI computing power. Kioxia Holdings and SoftBank Group saw significant rises of 9.3% and 11.2%, while Advantest, Taiyo Yuden, and Ibiden also experienced strong gains. However, gains were limited by better-than-expected US jobs data, raising Federal Reserve rate hike expectations. Financial and consumer stocks underperformed, with Mitsubishi UFJ and Nintendo dropping 2% and 1%, respectively.
