Energy preview: US oil rig count rise, Baker Hughes shows

The total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States rose in the week ended December 05, according to new data that Baker Hughes published on Friday, after last week's sharp decline. The total rig count in the US rose by 5 to 549, according to Baker Hughes, down 40 from this same time last year. The number of active oil rigs rose by 6 in the reporting period, according to the data, after falling by 12 rigs in the week prior. Oil rigs are now at 413, which is 69 below this same time last year. The number of gas rigs fell by 1 to 129, which is 27 more than this time last year. The miscellaneous rig count stayed the same at 7.
