Weekly Crude Oil Review: Oil Sees Choppy Action

WTI Crude oil lingered around its four month low as the market assessed the ongoing Omicron worries. OPEC and non-OPEC oil producers, decided in a meeting to stick to a previously agreed upon plan of hiking output by 400,000 barrels per day in January. It noted that the meeting shall remain in session pending further developments of the pandemic and continue to monitor the market closely and make immediate adjustments if required. OPEC stated that the planned release of oil from a number of strategic reserves reinforces to the necessity of diligent market monitoring to avoid a return to market imbalance. It highlighted the need to pay close attention to downside risks associated with inflation spikes, rising debt levels and supply-chain disruptions. Oil edged up immediately following the decision by the producing nations but continued to see upside resistance. WTI Crude closed around $66 per barrel while MCX Crude oil futures managed to end above Rs 5000 per barrel.
